But Will They Love TheKnot.Com Equally?

Thanks to California’s exemplary embrace of the 21st century, famous gay people have begun announcing intentions to join their straight brethren in that universally acknowledged state of bliss, marriage.

Right out of the gate, Ellen DeGeneres moved to secure Portia DeRossi in rightful matrimony, and who wouldn’t? Justin Timberlake is set to sing at their wedding. Britney Spears will not be in attendance, but she’ll have another wedding soon enough.

Now the news comes that Star Trek’s Mr. Sulu, George Takei of the wryly arched brow, will wed his long-time partner Brad Altman. After 21 years together, they’ve had time to plan. Takei told Reuters, “There’s no tradition in terms of same-sex marriage. We are designing and shaping our own wedding in our own way, so it’s going to be singular and unique.”

Congratulations, George! You and Brad and California are trailblazing and awesome, and you’ve already done better than 50% of American heteronormative relationships and 100% better than Britney. We have no fear for you going boldly where too few gay couples have gotten to go before.

For the slash fans: Kirk/Spock is now legal and prime for weddings in time-travel fic to the year 2008 AD and later.
